Makeover Monday: How Chinese New Year compares with USA Thanksgiving?

The Makeover Monday for week 6 2019 is about How Chinese New Year Compares With Thanksgiving.

Hundreds of millions of people across China have been celebrating the arrival of the New Year, or Spring Festival as the holiday is known locally. It's an absolutely huge event, considered the largest annual migration of not just people, but any mammal. To gauge the sheer scale of the Spring Festival, it's interesting to compare it to something huge by American standards - Thanksgiving. Source: https://goo.gl/mmyh2p

What works well?

  • Writing the title of the chart as a question.
  • Adding a text for context and using gray color.
  • Adding values labels.
  • Including the source.
  • Adding a Chinese dragon as a wallpaper.

What could be improved?

  • Using a different type of chart.
  • Use less colorful colors.

What I did?

  • Added the flag of China and USA for more context.
  • Used the same title as the original viz and applied a different color to each country.
  • Use horizontal bar chart to see differences.
