Makeover Monday: Alcohol Consumption by Country

The Makeover Monday for week 26 is about Alcohol Consumption by country.

Who doesn't like beers, right? Apparently, there some countries that like more than others, and thanks to Worldatlas.com that share World Health Organization's data of measuring alcohol consumption and I can create my own visualization and you enjoy it.

What works well?

  • Sort the x-axis.

What could be improved?


  • Start the Y-axis from zero.
  • Use a horizontal bar chart.
  • Add a little context.

What I did?

  • Highlighted the European countries that the article mentioned.

Balance General CIFCO 2014-2018

El día de ahora el Centro Internacional de Ferias y Convenciones de El Salvador (CIFCO), mediante un Tweet compartió una visualización donde informan a la población del balance general de 2014 a 2018 del gobierno anterior, la cual llamó mi atención por las enormes cantidades en pérdidas.

Espero que con este nuevo gobierno podamos realmente tener acceso a este y otros tipos de datos, que deberían ser públicos para que podamos conocer por nuestra propia cuenta como se administran los recursos del estado, que al final son impuestos que todos aportamos.

Quiero aclarar que no pertenezco a ningún partido político y que nadie me ha obligado o solicitado publicar este post, simplemente soy un ciudadano común y corriente que le apasiona la visualización de datos.

Makeover Monday: Sleepless in America?



Adults should sleep 7 or more hours per night on a regular basis to promote optimal health. This is what the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research Society recommends, because, sleeping less than 7 hours per night on a regular basis is associated with adverse health outcomes, including weight gain and obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and stroke, depression, and increased risk of death. Sleeping less than 7 hours per night is also associated with impaired immune function, increased pain, impaired performance, increased errors, and greater risk of accidents.

Sleep is fundamental for:
• Brain health
• Hormone health
• Immune health
• Metabolic health

  • Use different colors for each gender category.
  • Sort the X-axis.

What could be improved?

  • Start the Y-axis with zero instead of seven.

What I did?

  • I created three clustered bar charts for women, men, and both genders.
  • I changed the title to a question.
  • I added a paragraph as a context that explains the importance of sleep for more than 7 hours.
